In women with dense breast tissue, mammography alone may not be fully effective in detecting cancerous tumors. On a mammogram, dense breast tissue looks white and can hide breast masses or tumors, which also appear white. Women with dense breast tissue are also 4-6 times more likely to develop breast cancer compared to other women of the same age and health. Studies show adding ultrasound to mammography results in approximately 3.5 additional cancers detected per 1,000 patients in those with dense breasts. If your mammogram shows that you have dense breast tissue, talk with your doctor about Automated Breast Volume Scanning (ABVS), the painless, radiation-free 3D breast ultrasound technology.
It could save your life.
