SLHS's Volunteer Appreciation Dinner Held October 3, 2018

Potsdam, NY – Canton-Potsdam Hospital and Gouverneur Hospital held its annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on Wednesday, October 3, at the Barben Rooms, Cheel Building, Clarkson University.

Thirty-three volunteers with their guests attended and were welcomed by St. Lawrence Health System and Canton-Potsdam Hospital President and CEO David B. Acker, FACHE. Mr. Acker emphasized the importance of volunteerism to the hospital, as well as its long legacy of service. Vice President of Human Resources Michael Katz thanked the volunteers for the invaluable contributions made every day in the service of patients.

Years of Service Awards were presented to Brian Tiernan (5 Years – Center for Cancer Care/ Nutritional Services/Ambulatory Surgery), Michele Mashaw-Ayling (5 Years – Emergency Service Ambassador), Sandra Tomalty (10 years – Gift Shop), and Sharon Cotey (25 Years – ARC Blood Drives, Gift Shop, Healing Garden Caretaker).

The 2018 Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to Dorothy Gilbert by Community Relations Manager Deborah Chase-Lauther. Mrs. Gilbert has served as a volunteer for 18 years in various capacities, including ARC Blood Drives, the Gift Shop, and Patient Greeter, in addition to special hospital events.

Canton-Potsdam Hospital and Gouverneur Hospital presently have a team of 142 volunteers. Those interested in volunteering are invited to contact Workforce and Volunteer Program Manager Cynthia Cassell at (315) 261-5455.
