Song Earns Board Certification in Gastroenterology
Potsdam, NY--Xiasong Song, MD, a practitioner with Canton-Potsdam Hospital's Gastroenterology Services, 190 Outer Main Street, Suite B, has received his Board certification in gastroenterology from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM).
ABIM works to enhance the quality of health care by certifying internists and subspecialists who demonstrate their knowledge, skills, and attitudes essential for very good patient care. Board certification is voluntary and includes an exam that tests a physician's ability to diagnose patients with a broad range of conditions relating to the specialty area. Dr. Song's practice includes sub-specialties in hepatology (diseases of the liver), manometry (a test that measures the functioning of the esophagus), and inflammatory bowel disease.
Dr. Song is one of two gastroenterologists affiliated with CPH; Sebastian Mazzotta, MD, is a gastroenterologist and hepatologist. Among Dr. Mazzotta's many sub-specialties are diseases of the esophagus, diseases of the intestinal tract such as Celiac and Crohn's diseases, and diagnostic procedures, including the "pill cam" that a patient swallows and that returns highly detailed pictures of what the pill "sees" on its journey through the digestive system. Dr. Mazzotta is the Chair of Gastroenterology and Hepatology and the Director of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
Dr. Song joined the CPH staff in 2012. He received his MD from China Medical University in Shenyang, China, and completed a residency at New York Medical College, followed by a fellowship at SUNY Downstate Medical University.
