Lifeline

Lifeline is a personal emergency response system which links individuals to 24 hour emergency assistance at the push of a button.When the Personal Help Pendant is activated, the Lifeline Communicator automatically sends a message to the Lifeline Response Center located at Lifeline Central. The subscriber simply states his or her needs, if able to do so, and the Lifeline monitor will call the appropriate responder. In the event that the caller is unable to speak, the responder is still signaled. Responders are relatives, friends, or neighbors who can check on the subscriber quickly. If the unit is located in a long distance area, the subscriber will not be charged for a long distant call, and a long distant carrier is not needed.

Through the Lifeline Service at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, elderly, physically challenged, and others are able to maintain an independent living style in their own homes.

Every year in the United States one out of three people age 65 and over will fall. These 13.3 million people are often unable to get up without assistance and may be unable to call for help even with their Lifelife pendant or wristband. Canton Potsdam Hospital is proud to offer the new AutoAlert technology through Lifeline. With this technology, special accelerometers and pressure sensors in the AutoAlert pendant detect when somebody is falling and then automatically calls the Lifeline center for help. This results in help arriving faster and a reduced emotional trauma impact on the Lifeline user. As always, the AutoAlert pendant can be pressed at anytime to receive help and this new technology only ensures that those who wish to do so can live independently in their homes.

Also, Canton Potsdam Hospital is offering the new senior friendly chordless phone communicator which is intergrated with the Lifeline system. This phone features high contrast easy to read displays, large buttons for easy dialing, and a voice amplification system for the hearing impared.

The monthly fee is $32.00, with a one-time installation charge of $32.00. Subscription includes one pendant, and additional pendants are available for $16.00 per month.

It is important that you and/or your caregiver consider the following information related to your Personal Help Button wearing method to determine which wearing method is most appropriate for you. These wearing methods are common throughout the medical alert service industry.

Pendant Styles:
The Classic and Slimline Pendants are worn around the neck; this helps make the button accessible by either of your hands. CAUTION: The Pendant's neck cord is not desingned to break away. Therefore, it can pose a choking risk, including the possibility of death and serious injuries. The may apply to wearers in wheelchairs, using walkers, using beds with guard rails, or who might encounter other protruding objects upon which the cord can become tangled. Wearers from whom this is a concern may wish to consider the Wrist style button.

Wrist Styles:
The Slimline Wristband is worn around your wrist. CAUTION: In circumstances where the user's arm that is not wearing the Wristband becomes immobilized (examples: due to stroke or arm being trapped under a heavy object), this can present a risk that the user will be unable to press the button.
