Canton-Potsdam Hospital Presents Award to United Helpers

United Helpers was recently awarded Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s Board of Directors’ 2010 Community Service Award. This award is presented at the Corporate Board Meeting and is presented to an individual or organization deemed to be an exemplary leader on the health issues that face our community.
“United Helpers started out as an orphanage over 100 years ago. From there, it grew and changed into the foremost provider of care to people whose needs range from assistance with developmental disabilities, to home care, to assisted living for active senior citizens,” said Ed Mucenski, Canton-Potsdam Hospital Board Chairperson. “This organization’s pioneering work in the field of housing for senior citizens has come to life in the new Maplewood Campus, a beautiful housing project that perfectly symbolizes the work they do. Preserving dignity and independence are core values of this organization. John Turongian, former United Helpers Chief Executive Officer, has been one of the most resilient and thoughtful leaders in our community. Although John has moved on, the leadership philosophy has been passed on to his very able successor, Steve Knight,” continued Mucenski.
The Canton-Potsdam Hospital Board of Director’s Community Service Award was established in 1982. The community is encouraged to submit nominations, by letter, to: Canton-Potsdam Hospital’s Corporate Communications Office, Attn: Tracy Jarvis, 50 Leroy Street, Potsdam, NY 13676 or by e-mail to tjarvis@cphospital.org.
