CPH Awards Nursing Excellence

Potsdam, NY---To celebrate and honor the nursing staff at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, the Nursing Excellence Awards were established during this year’s National Nurses Week. Barbara Bromley, RN in the Birthplace, and Robin Avery, RN on Medical Surgical 3, were honored by their directors and peers earlier this month at the 2010 Nursing Excellence Awards Dinner.

Barbara Bromley was the recipient of the Standards of Professional Performance Award.  According to her peers, throughout her years of service Barbara has been a forerunner when it comes to improvements for the Birthplace. She has constantly worked to ensure that the unit is running in accordance with the American Nurses Association (ANA) Standards, even volunteering to participate in new initiatives and system upgrades. As her nomination affirmed, “The OB unit is a better place because of Barb’s professionalism.”

Robin Avery received the Standards of Practice Award. Robin has been praised for her thorough collection of patient information and the detailed plan of care that she enacts for her patients. As her nomination noted, her demeanor on the floor is one of excellence from the moment she receives report until she completes documentation. Her peers and directors note that her tireless efforts promote the continuity of patient care at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.

The criteria of the awards were based on the ANA Standards of Practice to honor those nurses who exemplified these standards most fully in their professional lives. The ANA Standards reveal the values and priorities of the profession while also providing direction for professional nursing practice.
