CPH Unveils New Cancer Treatment Unit

[Photo caption: Canton-Potsdam Hospital will begin providing chemotherapy treatments to cancer patients in its new medical oncology treatment unit on Wednesday, January 27, 2010. The treatment unit was created in a wing on the second floor of the Hospital. The area consists of office space for Dr. Howard J. Gold, CPH’s new medical oncology specialist, a preparation area for chemotherapeutic agents, a treatment space with flat-screen televisions, head phones, and comfortable chemotherapy chairs for patients, and a lounge with an education room for patients and families. In addition to chemotherapeutic treatments, the unit provides examination space for Dr. Gold’s hospital-based practice, and consultation space where he can meet with families and discuss options. Dr. Gold’s practice emphasizes an approach to treating the whole patient, combining traditional cancer treatment with approaches that care for the patient spiritually and emotionally. For more information or to make an appointment, patients should contact their primary care provider or call Mary Ellen Girard at 261-5890]
